You are to give an informative speech on a person of your choice. Your goal is to find someone you would like to tell the class about and perhaps learn more about yourself. You will need to make sure that this person is someone who can be researched. You may love your granddad, but unless there are qualified sources on him he will not work for this speech topic. You need to find someone who you can research and who has made an impact on their world. This could be a large global impact, or you could discuss the impact they have had on their own area of expertise. For instance Jackie Robinson certainly made a large impact on the world of baseball. Walt Disney made a large impact in the world of entertainment, specifically animation and/or theme parks.
You are not trying to advocate for a change in your audience. If your specific speech purpose includes the word “should” you are most likely trying to persuade your audience.
1: Who would you like to speak about?
2: Specific speech purpose. Finish this sentence: After listening to my speech, my audience will…
3: Write a well thought out paragraph as to why you would like to deliver a speech on this person. It is really important to me to know why you care enough to give a speech on this topic. Don’t forget that you are not advocating for a change to take place. You are not trying to get us to change our minds or start or stop doing something. Think of this speech as a five-minute-long teaching unit about the person you have chosen. Teach us something.
