Discuss potential topics during your discussion sections this week. 

This is a single-spaced of 750-850 words (complete with title, short introduction, three or so body paragraphs and a conclusion).

-To do this assignment you will choose topics, key terms and Lecture materials from class and discussion sessions between 1/31- 2/14.

-This assignment requires a close reading of the chapters of Decolonizing Methodologies and dedicated attention to the concepts and key terms we are studying and discussing during Lecture and Discussion Sections.

Your thesis should clearly state an interpretationan analysis that is your ownthat characterizes the relationship between the quote and the material/topic youre applying it to.

 

Identify a key quote/ key term / from chapters 3 and 5 from Decolonizing Methodologies (including the two extra pages about what it is/means to be researched as a colonized person).  (See the Power Point from Lecture to review key terms)

-Once you have chosen your quote or key term from Decolonizing Methodologies, analyze it. Your thesis should clearly state an interpretationan analysis that is your ownthat characterizes the relationship between the quote and the chapter youre applying it to.

-Your goal is to effect a deep reading both of the meaning and significance of the quote or key term, and of the materials to which you apply the quote.

You should aim to give a new way of understanding, do not repeat the same views that I presented  during lecture. Make the effort to find your own perspective.

You can use one of the other materials we have read/listen to including the materials that are in the Power Point from Lectures and your Discussion Sections. For the materials used in Lecture (see power point) and the  podcast, videos we have studied so far.  

Keep in mind that you may have to do some research.

 

 Keep in mind the topics we are studying in the class from the first lectures until 2/14 :

-Race is a social construction

-Culture is shared and  constituted by practices that allow people to make sense of the world.  There is not one ultimate definition of Culture.  

-How the structures of Colonialism as an expansion of Imperialism play out in the lives of people in contemporary times?

-You should aim to give a new way of understanding how the topic and the material you use are related, do not repeat the same views that I presented  during lecture. Make the effort to find your own perspective.

-Think about your experience in life and where you are, live, or what you are studying to craft your own perspective.

Think about:

How do you relate with the topic and the materials that you are choosing to analyze?

What is your position and what questions do you have to form your own opinion ?
