Please answer the following 9 questions.
Questions 1-3 are long answer questions and your response should be between 400 to 450 words.
Questions 4-9 are short answer questions and your response should be between 100 and 200 words.
Guidelines for approaching and responding to the exam questions:
- Take your time reading each question. Be certain you know what it is asking, and answer each part of the question.
- Your response should use complete sentences and have a clear structure. Following the structure of the question is usually a good idea, i.e. if the question asks you to describe something while referencing more than one author, create separate paragraphs to engage each author, or alternatively organize each paragraph according to a topic/theme and within each you can comment on how different authors engage that theme.
- Support your arguments using references to our class readings, lectures, and other materials.
- Be sure to credit ideas to the appropriate author and cite both the author, text, and the page number when using quotes. For example: (Hurston, Research, 145). Use the following citation for lecture and lecture slides: (Fisher, Lecture/Lecture Slides, February 23, 2021)
- Use quotations sparingly. Anytime you feel the urge to quote, you should first attempt to express the author’s intent (or capture the spirit of a statement) using your own words.
- This said, engage the authors and texts on their own terms. Do your best to tell us what you think they are arguing, but please refrain from relying on personal examples/anecdotes for this exam.
- Do not rely on the internet or other outside sources. Please rely only on our course materials.
