• 2-3 pages (2 complete pages minimum)

• Use traditional essay format (introductory paragraph with thesis statement, body paragraphs, concluding

paragraph, transitions – no section headings allowed)

• Use correct MLA document format, correct MLA in-text (parenthetical) citations, and correct MLA works

cited page format (use the 1101 MLA Guide in Blackboard)

• Appropriately use clearly acknowledged information from 2-4 credible sources to support your thesis

statement or supporting claims (use the 1101 Guide to Research in Blackboard)

• Use correct Standard English grammar and mechanics

• Correctly follow the assignment requirements with precision

• Do NOT wait until the last minute; manage your time and obligations carefully.

Essay topic:

For your first essay, we are going to get the state-required research paper accomplished. This assignment has three primary objectives: to evaluate your abilities to create a reasonable and valid thesis statement, to support that thesis statement with reasonable and credible evidence for which you have appropriately evaluated and acknowledged the original sources, and to follow directions for completing a task with accuracy and precision.
