Response to Reading/Video Commentaries: Three paragraphs concentrating on an assigned reading or a video commentary on a specific film, specifically on something affirmed or argued by the author-critic that you delve into more deeply or that you doubt or have questions about. You should quote or summarize very precisely what the author is arguing and then give your response, your reasons for calling it into question or agreeing with it along with your own thoughtful qualifications or deepening additions. You cant just say well, I agree or I dont agree, you have to give reasons for thinking as you do. It does not have to be that you totally agree or disagree with the statement you cite; perhaps you think that the authors statement, her perception (of a scene or shot) or argument needs to be qualified in a subtle way or that something has to be added. Express your view precisely. This is NOT a gut responseit is the exact opposite of a gut response. You are reflecting on what the
author or video commentator has said in light of your own take on the film. Individual responses are marked check plus, check, check minus or no credit.
