ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
In order to fulfil the basic requirements of this assessment, you must: 
Critically engage in an in-depth analysis of the question and present a clear answer thatdirectly addresses the task. All sources used should be acknowledged and referencedthroughout, in the format set out in the course referencing guide. A well-written essaywill demonstrate your ability to:

Gather, evaluate, and analyse relevant information. 
Critically engage in relevant scholarly literature on International Relations. 
Structure material in a consistent manner. 
Form a lucid and convincing argument that takes into account different scholarlyviews and empirical evidence.

The structure of an essayYou must have one clear line of development of the essay that contains: 

(1) Introduction: The introduction sets the scene for the main body of the essay. In theintroduction, you should define any terms in the question that require defining. Youshould also further state very clearly and concisely the meaning of the question thatyou are responding to, and the approach that you will be taking. 
(2) Main body: In the main body, present arguments for and/or against, clearly showingyour view(s) throughout. Your arguments must be well researched and supported byscholarship and fact. You must evidence good knowledge of the topic literature byproviding a consistent literature review while developing your arguments. You shouldaddress and answer the question throughout. Separate paragraphs clearly, howeverthey must be always logically and linguistically linked. 
(3) Conclusion: Your essay must progress to a logical conclusion, which must addressthe question and summarise only the arguments which you presented in your mainbody. 
(4) References: Put in your references as footnotes and have a section onBibliographical references at the end of your essay. Footnotes are part of the wordcount; however, bibliographical references are not.
