  • To complete this exercise, you will locate a LOCAL Sustainability Initiative/Activity/Non-Profit in the area and respond to the questions below. The initiative may be a Non-profit organization working on a sustainability theme, a college or school initiative to address a sustainability issue, a local area organization working on eco-friendly solutions. If you are not sure if something counts, please email me to get it approved before responding to the questions. Examples of initiatives included: a local farm-to-table initiative, solar or wind power initiatives, tiny homes, energy efficient buildings, local recycling efforts etc.

    • Once you locate the activity/initiative/non-profit, use this form to enter the bio-geographical information. 

    • Then respond to the following questions:

      • Describe the initiative. Summarize its history, why did it begin, what are its objectives?

      • What made you interested in this particular activity/initiative?

      • How does this initiative/activity relate to course material? Describe why it is important based on what you have learned in this course.

      • Any additional information you want to share about this activity/initiative.

  • Visit https://www.google.com/earth/ and launch Google Earth in your browser. THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS GOOGLE MAPS. Google Earth offers 3D renderings of places on Earth. 

    • Visit a few places and view them in 3D. 

    • Select at least 3 places (For example, Matterhorn, Grand Prismatic Spring, or the islands of Tuvalu, Tonga or any other South Pacific Islands)

    • Take screenshots of each of the 3 the places you visit

    • For each place, provide a short description of how it formed drawing from the material you are learning in class.

      • For example, the Matterhorn is an example of a Pyramidal Peak formed by Glacial activity, describe this in your writing.

    • Finally, write a few sentences of your experience using Google Earth and how this may be used as an exercise in class to teach Geography.
