Silent Protest

This assignment is a response to a discussion post. Below is the discussion post based on the reading Silent Protest. The individual is respondingto “Comment on the significance of the title in connection with the content of the story”.

The title of Shadi Eskandanis short story, Silent Protest is the opposite of what actually happens in the story. The Muslim women are protesting peoples common perception of their cultural affiliation with the Israeli Occupation. Their protest is silent, but the narrator says that they usually forget to maintain the one hour of silence (1). In these conversations the women have, they share news about peers and they talk about their mistreatment due to their ethnicity. The title implies that they are silent, but the content of the story reveals to the reader that even in silence, people spread ideas, news, hope, and other powerful energies through small talk.
