Cognitive Dissonance

Instructions: Generate an example of a time when someone experiences cognitive dissonance and then reduces it by changing their attitude.  Your example can be based on your personal experience, or something you find in a film, book, or online.Make sure to: 

  • Describe the specific example of cognitive dissonance that you located,  
  • Clearly explain why you think the person experiences cognitive dissonance, and what type of cognitive dissonance they experience (insufficient justification?  Post-decision dissonance?  Effort justification?), and 
  • Clearly explain how the person reduces their cognitive dissonance.
