For the essay, you are to choose a film (it can be any film – an old film, current film, one we’ve seen in class, animated film. (The only films that you cannot write about are foreign films), and simply discuss the stereotype(s) that the film presents. It can be a film that contains racial stereotype(s); gender stereotypes (male stereotypes, female stereotypes); socio-economic stereotypes (rich stereotypes or poor stereotypes); sexuality stereotypes.
After you have chosen your film, in the opening paragraph discuss in a FEW sentences what the film is about. Then proceed to your thesis statement, discuss the stereotype(s) that you feel the film presents using BRIEF examples from the film to support your argument. Keep in mind that many films contain multiple stereotypes. You may decide to choose one stereotype from the film or multiple stereotypes. Include an evaluation of your own perceptions about the stereotype(s) articulated in your chosen film and how did the film impact your own ideology.
The essay is to be MLA format: three FULL pages in length, typed, double spaced with 1 inch margins and 12 point font. If you use a quote from the film or use any additional resources, then you need to include a works cited page. If you are including a works cited page, then that page DOES NOT COUNT AS PART OF THE THREE REQUIRED PAGES OF THE ESSAY. You do not have to use added resources if you do not want to. You may turn in the essay before the due date if you so choose. Essays are to be emailed to me no later than 11:59 pm on the due date listed in the weekly schedule
