This assignment is designed to assist you in exploring your own value orientation.  Of particular interest is how your own values and feelings influence your attitudes and behaviors.  For this assignment, describe your values as they relate to social work values and the NASW Code of Ethics.  Specifically, address the following prompts.  This paper must have depth in order to receive full credit- in other words, explore and fully answer each prompt, don’t simply identify the value or feeling associated with the question. (Paper should be roughly 4 pages double-spaced.  It should include a short introduction to present the information to the reader, as well as a brief conclusion to sum up what you’ve written.)

·       Examine your personal values and how they conflict or are congruent with the Code of Ethics.  Do this by identifying and discussing ONE specific personal value that conflicts with social work values and the Code of Ethics and ONE specific personal value that is congruent with social work values and the Code of Ethics.  How will you manage personal values that conflict with social work values?

·       Describe life situations that have helped you shape your values.  Describe how your experiences have led to your belief in social work values and the principles described in the Code of Ethics.

·       Which of your personal values do you see as especially helpful to you as you practice social work?  How do you see yourself promoting the values of the social work profession in your practice?
