Imagine that you created a grassroots coalition from the community to help support your efforts to create a public health initiative around the issue detailed in the article. Your resulting committee includes a mix of community leaders, health care workers, and families that have been impacted by the exhaust exposure. The coalition members are going to begin their work by splitting up and leading discussion groups in different parts of the community. You need to train them before you do this work.
Create a 2- to 3-page lesson plan for a learning activity that could be used within a training session for your committee.
Choose 1 of the following learning activity types:
- Role-playing: Have participants role-play interactions with the group.
- Reflect-pair-share: Have participants reflect on discussion questions related to the above skills and share their thoughts with a partner.
The learning activity must ensure all your committee members have a firm understanding of the materials. For the learning activity, propose how you will assess members understanding of the concepts below:
- How to build trust in a group
- Facilitation skills
- Techniques for leading group discussions.
Include the following components in your lesson plan:
- Learning Objectives: 1 to 2 learning objectives for the activity
- Introductory Script: a 1-paragraph script that the instructor will use to introduce the activity
- Activity Instructions: Provide instructions for student learning activities.
- Role-playing: Must include a 1-paragraph scenario description
- Reflect-pair-share: Must include 2 to 3 discussion questions
- Instructor Tips: explanation to the instructor for effectively leading the activity
- Closing Script: wraps up learning and helps trainees organize the information into a meaningful context
- Assessment: Describe how learning will be assessed for mastery of the concepts.
