  1. In Chapter 2 of The World is a Text, Silverman and Rader state that “writing is fundamentally connecting to reading and thinking” (19). What role does rhetoric play in reading both traditional and non-traditional texts (or semiotic situations)?
  2. In Chapter 2 of The World is a Text, Silverman and Rader point out that “the study of rhetoric carries with it a sense of the polis (Greek for “city” or “public)” (21).  Discuss how this quote applies to your understanding of civic engagement (participation in public life).
