Discussion Questions for Romeo v. Youngberg
1. In accordance with this case, what are the rights of people with disabilities in institutions? What, if any, limitations are placed on these rights?
2. Do you agree with the Court’s decision in this case? What is your opinion with regard to the weight the Court provides to professionals when determining the needs of individuals? Is there a better way to determine the needs of individuals, and how?
3. Given today’s society and the changes that have occurred for people with disabilities over the last 30 years, do you think the Court would decide this case differently today?
