Overview

You will be preparing a resume and a cover letter to help you practice your professional writing skills. You are to choose an opportunity to which you could apply and be competitive within the next six months. It can be a job or an internship.

In the Career Context Analysis, you identified at least one ad that might be something to which you can apply in the next six months. If you did so, you are welcome to use that ad for this assignment. If you did not, or if you simply wish to use something else, you may do so. Remember, the ad needs to be something that you can apply to in the next six months. If you are a graduating senior, the ad you select might differ from the type of ad selected by a second-year student. 

Directions

  1. Identify a professional opportunity to which you could apply and be reasonably competitive within the next six months. It can be a job or an internship. If you wish to use this as an opportunity to create a graduate school application, you may do so, but you are still required to prepare a resume (or CV) and cover letter for the assignment. You are encouraged to speak with me if you wish to do this. The advertisement should be fairly comprehensive, in that it provides a clear description and requirement of the position. A short, incomplete advertisement is not recommended for this assignment.  
  2. Submit the advertisement that you have selected; create a PDF file or some other file version of the advertisement. Do not merely submit a link, as the link might not be accessible in the future. 
  3. List two to three key terms/qualifications from the advertisement that align with your own strengths. 
  4. In two to three sentences, provide a quick example of how your experiences or qualifications align with each of your key terms. 

Requirements and Grading

Please include a screenshot or a copy-and-paste version of the advertisement or opportunity to which you will be applying. Please do not include a link to your advertisement. Such webpages are subject to change or become defunct. Generate examples of your qualifications that align with the key terms from the advertisement. 

You will earn 10 points if you submit the advertisement, provide key terms and qualifications from the ad that align with your strengths, and explain how your experiences or qualifications align with each of the terms. Fewer points are earned if you do not complete all of these steps.
