Your assignment is to write an exemplification essay.  You should create a thesis that makes a definitive statement that can then be developed by exploring three different examples.  Those three examples would be the first, second, and third topics which would be explored in paragraphs 2, 3, and 4.  In essence, the examples prove the statement you made in your thesis; each one of them could follow the thesis statement as a because statement or as an in this way statement.
