This assignment will include two essays. Choose two of the following: 

1. What is a fragile state? What areas of fragility should the international community address and why? Provide current and historic examples.
2. What is human security? When did this idea become popular and what does it mean for US national security decisions? Should we pay any attention to this? Provide current examples.
3. Assess the difference between terrorism and crime. Are cyber threats a crime or a terror attack? Provide current and historic examples.
4. What is the most pressing emerging need for US national security? Does this need differ from what the international community needs to prioritize? Why or why not?  Provide current examples.
5. What is human trafficking, and why is it so hard to stop? 
6. Assess the likelihood of international cooperation on global health security. Define your terms and use theories of cooperation to help explain current examples of cooperation (or lack thereof) on a recent health issue, like COVID-19, Ebola, AIDS, or SARS (to name a few).
7. Is climate change a national security issue? Does the answer differ depending on what state in which you live? Would the US response differ from the Australian response (for example)? Why or why not?
8. Are drug cartels terrorist groups? Why or why not? Provide examples.
9. What are global public goods, and why is it hard to cooperate to find solutions to them? Is there a global commons? Is it in danger? Provide current examples.

 Technical Requirements

• Your paper must be at a minimum of 4-5 pages per question for a total of 8-10 pages (the Title and Reference pages do not count towards the minimum limit).
• Scholarly and credible references should be used. A good rule of thumb is at least 2 scholarly sources per page of content.
• Type in Times New Roman, 12 point and double space.
• Students will follow the current Turabian Style as the sole citation and reference style used in written work submitted as part of coursework. 
• Points will be deducted for the use of Wikipedia or encyclopedic type sources. It is highly advised to utilize books, peer-reviewed journals, articles, archived documents, etc.
• All submissions will be graded using the assignment rubric.
