Week Eight: Read Chapter 11 page 265-286 and 293.

I wanted to make sure and cover the nature of foster care, types of foster care homes, and some information on adoption. This gives us an opportunity to look inside not only what it means to move into foster care, but the types of homes, the requirement, and commitment needed from foster parents. I also want to encourage you to think about who has the means and resources to be foster parents and how this plays into the impact of being placed or adopted. This is another opportunity to look into the many types of support services needed for youth, the many roles needed in the community to provided culturally competent/inclusive and well-rounded services.

2. Considering the ethnicity of the population in care in Washington; what are some of the barriers to families of color stepping into the role of foster parenting? Why is having families of color so important? What are some ways to engage families of color in being providers?
