- Reyes refers to research that “points to an enduring stigma for boys whose behavior is seen as feminine” (para. 6). What do you think accounts for that stigma? Do you and your friends mock or make fun of males who you perceive as behaving in a “feminine” way?
- How does Reyes explain such things as, women now frequently go into traditionally male fields but men don’t go into women’s fields (para. 10), and, women now insist that it is fine for them to have typically male traits such as assertiveness and ambition but men do not insist that they can be kind and compassionate (para. 11)? Do you agree with that explanation?
- Reyes comments that “gender stereotypes do seem to have loosened” and cites some examples of what she means (para. 14). Do your experiences and observations support or refute her comment?
- Explain what you think this quotation in the last paragraph means and the extent to which you agree with it: “If men don’t feel free to go into women’s jobs, . . . women are not really free”.
