biopsychosocial assessment

Here you will submit your Biopsychosocial Assessment and a brief treatment plan.  See the example in Module 1 for a format, or use one you are familiar with.

You will conduct a psychosocial history interview during your first meeting with your client (team member role playing the client you will be treating).  An example is included but formatting and content can vary.  Review the basic concepts of the model your group is working with, and design your information gathering questions to reflect the priority considerations of the model.  Remember your classmate is role playing, and not a professional actor!  If there are discrepancies in their story don’t assume they are intentional, they could be a result of the ‘client’ confusing some facts.  If in doubt, explore with more questions or if necessary call ‘time out’ and ask the role player to verify the information in question.  You will then use this information to formulate a treatment plan.

An Example of a Biopsychosocial /Treatment Plan in Module 1 -however yours may vary.  You treatment plan goals will be at least in part dependant on your treatment model- and will emphasize the measures of treatment success that would be associated with your model.  For example, a Cognitive Behavioral therapy positive outcome might be described very different from a Psychodynamic postive outcome.  The example is of a treatment plan for a therapist using primarily REBT/Cognitive interventions.

At minimum your treatment plan should include

  • The client’s presenting problem as they see it, and any additional problem areas for intervention that you as the clinician identify.  This should be backed up by data contained in your biopsychosocial
  • Indication of the severity of the problem or problems, levels of functioning
  • An overall goal for resolution of each/successful treatment outcomes
  • Indication of your prognosis or expectations, and indicators of improvement.
