Assignment: Most of us can vividly remember when we first encountered an environment that didn’t include our parent(s) or close family members. Think back to your first day of daycare, pre-school, kindergarten, college, or any event that marked the first “real” separation from family. Once you were placed in that situation, how did the norms you were used to suddenly change? Who was in charge and who had the authority to control your behavior?

Demonstrate that you understand the culture and the socialization process by writing an essay that explains how you were socialized to behave in your new environment. In your essay address the following questions:

1) What experience are you sharing? Was the “culture” you experienced once away from home the same as at home? (15 pts)

2) How long did it take for you to become socialized (familiar and comfortable) with your new routine? (10 pts)

3) Have you used the lessons you learned during this socialization experience to help you become socialized in other situations? (15 pts)

Each question should be addressed in its own paragraph (Do not number the paragraphs). Be sure to use full sentences and include all of the requested information. Your summary should have a total word count of between 200-250 words.
