Part 1: Reading and Concept Review

1. Review the assigned readings for Week 1:

· Polit, D. F., & Beck, C. T. (2021). Nursing Research: Generating and Assessing Evidence for Nursing Practice (11th ed.). Chapter 1–3.

· Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Principles of Epidemiology in Public Health Practice (Lesson 1: Introduction to Epidemiology).

2. Define and provide one clinical example for the following concepts:

· Population vs. Sample

· Independent vs. Dependent Variable

· Descriptive vs. Inferential Statistics

· Nominal, Ordinal, Interval, and Ratio Levels of Measurement

(Submit in a table format.)

Part 2: Application to Nursing Practice

1. Identify one current evidence-based article related to your DNP project or area of interest (published within the last 5 years).

· Summarize the purpose, research question, study design, and type of data collected.

· Classify each variable in the study according to its level of measurement.

· Explain which statistical test(s) were used (e.g., t-test, chi-square, correlation) and whether they were appropriate for the data type.

(1–2 pages, APA 7th edition format)

Part 3: Reflection

1. In one paragraph, describe how biostatistics can strengthen your role as a DNP-prepared nurse in leading quality improvement initiatives, interpreting outcomes, and influencing policy.

(Approx. 150–200 words)

· Length: 2–3 pages (excluding title and reference pages)

· APA 7th edition formatting (title page, headings, in-text citations, reference page)

· Minimum of two scholarly references (2019–2025)
