You may use any resources at your disposal. List your sources at the end of each essay.  Most of the answers to these questions are directly addressed in your text. Appropriately cite any sources if you are quoting or closely borrowing from an author’s text (physical or electronic). Suggested length is 2 or more pages per question (450-800 words).

 

1. Trace the history and philosophy of the Sikh faith.

 

2. Answer questions 1 & 4 of the Review Questions and # 3 For Further Reflection at the end of the Sikhism Chapter on page 241 (2nd edition) or page 248 in Invitation to World Religions.

 

 4. What are your thoughts on Baha’i? How did the movement begin and continue to sustain itself into the modern period.

 

5. What aspects of the notion of “God” do Sikhs share with Baha’i ? As both religions are influenced by Islam, how might their ideas of the divine compare with Christians and Jews.

 

6. Choose a topic from the final chapter of Invitation to World Religions that you found interesting and write an essay about it.

                        

7. Pick one of the Review Questions or For Further Reflection questions at the end of   Chapter 14, p. 567 (2nd edition) or 579  in Invitation to World Religions and answer it.

 

 

8. Do some research on Interfaith and Ecumenical movements in America.

 

9. Choose a contemporary religious group or cult that has drifted far away from mainstream religion and write an essay about it.

 

10.  Write an essay about ecology and religion. Try to include the perspectives of at least three different groups

 

11.  Write an essay about violence and contemporary religion. Try to include the perspectives of at least three different groups

 

12. Pick one segment (20 to 30 minutes) from the PBS Documentary God in America and write a summary or reflective essay.

    Essays for weeks 8 through 10 are due by Monday December 12th (11:59 p.m.)         

You should send them directly to the professor through Blackboard. Please attach the 3 weeks of essays (9 total essays) in a single Microsoft Word file using the Assignment Submission tab within the Assignment section of the Blackboard menu. Be sure to number your questions, put them in order, and identify the week. Don’t forget to include your sources or bibliography.

     

 

Please submit both questions together in one attachment. Do not create an attachment or folder for each question. Number them, separate them by week and put all 4 weeks in one attachment.
