One way to bring the theories and concepts of HRD “alive” is to talk with HRD leaders about the nature and function of HRD in their organizations. This assignment is comprised of two parts: (a) an individual paper analyzing interviews with two HRD leaders and (b) a group presentation synthesizing findings from the interviews.
5.1. Individual Paper (25 points)
1. Identify two HRD Leaders responsible for learning and development and obtain their cooperation. Inform the interviewees about the purpose of the interview and assure them that you will use a pseudonym regarding any information you share with others.
2. You will be assigned to a group.
3. Prepare to bring sample questions to your group for discussion on our class meeting that you think would be informative for your interviews. You will have time to discuss the questions with your group. Note that you will be conducting semi-structured interviews, which means that there will be opportunities to probe with unique questions you deem important during the interview as well as questions that you pose your interviewees.
4. Interview two HRD leaders. It is recommended that you record the interview so that you do not have to take notes during the interview.
5. In preparation for your paper, reflect on what you learned from the interviews:
a. Did the information confirm or contradict what you know about HRD?
b. Was anything surprising? What are some possible implications for HRD?
6. Write a paper analyzing your findings against theory and practice that discusses key themes emerged from the interviews. This paper should be 7-8 pages (content only) Your paper should include:
a. Introduction
b. Description of HRD leaders
c. Description of the organizations HRD practices (individual/organizational learning/development)
d. Analysis of findings according to course content and literature, including citations, and critiques as appropriate
e. Conclusion
Your paper will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
1. Analysis of findings (5 points)
2. Integration of course content and literature (at least five citations) (10 points)
3. Quality of writing (5 points)
4. Compliance to the guidelines as described above, organization, and logic (5 points)
