Context: Fictional works have been a staple of reading for consumers worldwide for as long as modern humanity can remember. By creating worlds of fantasy, authors create spaces where readers can "getaway" from reality and immerse themselves in content that is entertaining. Albeit that fiction is rooted in fantasy, much of it comes from a place of truth. It is these truths, which are revealed in themes, that allow people to gravitate towards this kind of prose.
Instructions: You will compose a one-thousand (1000) word essay that analyzes and compares the themes of two fictional pieces from this module’s readings.
- "The Lottery" pg. 354
- "Bartleby, The Scrivener" pg. 307
- "Two Kinds" pg. 370
- "Battle Royal" pg. 342
- "A Hunger Artist" pg. 335
You will also identify the era in which the authors were living when they wrote their pieces and how the events of those timeframes may have influenced the themes they incorporated in their work. You will need to do a small amount of research to acquire the information regarding the era the authors lived in.
Be sure to use either MLA or APA to format and properly cite your essay. This will include a title (only APA) and either a References Page (APA) or Works Cited Page (MLA).
