BUS 333 – Spring 2022 – Dr. Powley – Midterm EXAM

Base your answers on chapters 1 – 10. Do not add new or different information which you might find on the Internet. The purpose of the exam is to demonstrate that you understand the materials in the book. You must make direct references to the relevant text areas and include page number references to support your answers. Note the number of references required below. 

Prepare your answer to the following question in a Word document and post it to this journal no later than 10 pm Friday, February 25.  Once you’ve posted your response, go back and open it up to be sure that you can read it. Remember, if you see an error message or can’t read it, then I can’t read it and it will not be counted. No late paper will be accepted regardless of the reason. No extensions. Use good business writing and grammar. Don’t wait until the last minute to post your paper. Plagiarism will result in falling this exam. 

We have completed the first portion of the “Empire of Pain” which took us through the early history of the Sackler family and focused on Arthur Sackler, the dominant family member so far. Arthur was a key player in the development and marketing of several drugs which become the foundation of current lawsuits against the family which we will read about in later weeks. As Arthur grew older he became a collector of art and a philanthropist in an attempt to create a positive image for himself and family. He seems to have been successful in that effort. Below is how Wikipedia begins its article about Arthur Sackler. 

Having read the book we can likely identify many areas of his professional life which are not included in Wikipedia. The midterm exam question is to write a summary of Arthur Sackler’s life focusing on his professional life’s achievements (whether considered good or bad). Include at least ten (10) positive or negative achievements. Each achievement must include a page number reference. References must be from different pages/chaptershttps://bloomfield.edu/academics/academic-centers/center-student-success/fostering-student-success-program in the book. Do not just list the references. Discuss each one and why you selected it. 

There is no required page limit so long as each achievement is adequately discussed and page number referenced. 

Without page references the exam will not be graded.  Be sure to attach a Word document.
